Dear Terry,

The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) is pleased to add our congratulations to you on the successful launch of Global Partnerships for Excellence in Education, Research, and Service (Global PEERS).  As the global epidemic grows, it threatens social and political stability, it reverses economic progress, it further entrenches discrimination against women and minorities, it ravages communities that are overwhelmed by its impact, and it ruins the lives of families and individuals.  Targeted and consistent programs to help with the prevention, identification, and treatment of HIV are essential in the current global focus on health.

The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care was founded in 1987 to provide support and education to nurses working in the epidemic with the ultimate goal of improving care for HIV-infected and at-risk clients. We focused initially on the domestic issues of the epidemic and contributed to progress in treatment and prevention. Over the past decade, many of our members have worked toward decreasing the global impact of the epidemic. ANAC, as an organization, recognizes the need to support these nurses. We also recognize the need to be active in the global efforts because the epidemic cannot end as long as individuals are being exposed to and infected with HIV.

We applaud your efforts and look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Lucy Bradley-Springer, PhD, RN, ACRN
