We live in a world where human life has little value. Those of us who live in resource-affluent countries seldom reflect on the value of human life except when catastrophes such as 9/11 demonstrate the fragility of life and how life may be devalued by others.  We then respond with our time, our talents, and our financial assistance – responses generally measured in minutes, hours, and sometimes days.  After we respond, most of us continue our lives in much the same manner as they were before the catastrophe.

There are, however, some whose lives are committed to honoring the dignity and value of human life by offering their time, talents, and resources towards helping those whose lives are diminished by life-threatening diseases and other human and societal catastrophes. Their responses are not measured in minutes, hours, or days, but rather in years, decades, and lifetimes. They are the men and women who recognize that all life has infinite value, and that singular truth compels them to respond accordingly when the value of life is threatened by the failure of governments, other organizations, and individuals to respond effectively to the challenges of disease, pestilence, starvation, poverty, and civil unrest.

Terry Brennan and Global Peers have the experience, talent, and commitment to effect substantive change in the lives of the marginalized affected by HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases because they accept the responsibility that comes with acknowledgement of the dignity and value of human life.  I hope that you will take this opportunity to share in this responsibility by your support of Global Peers.

Sincerely,

Gordon Nary
