Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 9, 2026
Global Peers Inc. ("Global Peers," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. We are committed to protecting the privacy and safety of everyone who uses our website and participates in our programs, especially minors. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have.
Because our program serves young people in multiple countries, including the United States and Brazil, we strive to comply with applicable data protection laws, including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Brazil's Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD).
1. WHO THIS POLICY APPLIES TO
This Privacy Policy applies to all users of our website and all participants in our programs, including learners, volunteers, and the parents or guardians of minors. Many of our participants are minors between the ages of 12 and 18. We require parental or guardian consent before collecting personal information from any participant under the age of 18.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect only the information necessary to operate our program safely and effectively. This may include:
• Contact and identity information: name, email address, age or age bracket, country, and parent or guardian contact details for participants under 18.
• Account and registration information: information submitted through volunteer applications, learner sign-up forms, and consent forms.
• Payment information: when families subscribe, payment is processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store full payment card numbers on our own systems.
• Session recordings: all live conversation sessions are recorded for safety purposes, as described in our Recording Policy.
• Technical information: basic website usage data such as browser type and pages visited, collected through our website platform.
3. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the information we collect to:
• Match learners with appropriate volunteers within the same age bracket.
• Schedule, deliver, and record conversation sessions.
• Process subscription payments and send program-related communications.
• Maintain the safety of participants and investigate any reported concerns.
• Comply with legal obligations and our own safeguarding policies.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties. We do not use participant information for advertising.
4. SESSION RECORDINGS
All sessions are recorded via our video platform for the safety of both learners and volunteers. Recordings are stored securely, kept private, and reviewed only when a concern is reported. By participating in Global Peers sessions, participants and their parents or guardians consent to this recording. For full details, see our Recording Policy.
5. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION
We share personal information only in limited circumstances:
• With service providers who help us operate, such as our video conferencing, scheduling, and payment processing platforms, who are bound to protect the information.
• With parents or guardians regarding their own minor child's participation.
• When required by law, or to protect the safety of a child or other person, including reporting to appropriate authorities.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Protecting children is central to our mission. We require verifiable parental or guardian consent before a minor participates. Parents and guardians have the right to review the personal information we hold about their child, request its deletion, and withdraw consent at any time by contacting us. If you believe we have collected information from a child without proper consent, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
7. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
Everyone, regardless of location, has the right to access, correct, or delete their personal information, withdraw consent, or object to certain processing. Any participant or family may request that we erase their personal information at any time, and we will honor that request. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@globalpeers.org. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
8. DATA SECURITY AND RETENTION
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect personal information. Session recordings and personal data are retained only as long as necessary for program operation, safety oversight, and legal compliance, after which they are deleted in accordance with our internal policies.
9. INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPANTS
Our participants are located in different countries. By using our services, you understand that your information may be processed in the United States, where our organization is based. We take steps to protect your information consistent with this policy regardless of where you are located.
10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify participants and families.
